Choosing a cosmetic surgeon can be overwhelming considering the amount of advertising we see all around us for cheap and easy cosmetic surgery procedures. So how do you choose the right one? How can you be so sure that what is stated in a television ad or billboard sign is leading you in the right direction and to a qualified cosmetic surgeon who performs quality cosmetic or reconstructive surgery? Whether you are getting cosmetics or recontructive surgery, it is important to make sure the surgeon you pick is right for you . Here are some tips for choosing the right cosmetic surgeon:

Accreditation: A good surgeon will always maintain and hold their  accreditation standards in high regard. Two good sites for checking a surgeon's accreditation are the American Society of Plastic Surgeons and the American Society for Aesthetic Plastic Surgery Here you will find  search pages where you can search by state, zip code, surgeon last name,etc.  The search pages also allow you to search in a 50 mile radius or more depending on your preference. All of the surgeons you will find here are board certified through the American Board of Plastic Surgery and/or The Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada.

Photos: A good cosmetic surgeon will maintain before and after photos of patients who have used their services. Ask to review some of these to see if the surgeon's work fits what you are specifically looking for.

References: Next to accreditation, referrals are by far one of the best ways to find out if a surgeon is right for you. As the saying goes, "Word of mouth is the best advertising", so ask your friends, family, coworkers, neighbors, etc. for information about cosmetic surgeons they may have used. Be sure and ask them if they would consider using them again, if the procedure went smoothly, and if the price was within reason for the type of work they had done.
